When I was a child, I loved solving problems, I loved taking things apart and putting them back together. I figured out how to get optimum performance from my racing car to make it win races even against kids on bikes. I overcame many obstacles to study mechanical engineering at university and got into one of the biggest engineering companies in the UKÂ
But it wasn’t long before my dreams gave way to reality…
I couldn’t make anything! I couldn’t solve anything worthwhile, and I struggled to even be creative; I was busy writing documents and attending meetings; I had to do so much donkey work and there were too many people who could tell me what to do and they were earning much more money.Â
I felt constrained, under-valued and totally unfulfilled;Â
But it shouldn’t have been like that. There had to be a better way because it wasn’t like this for the greatest innovators. The ones who gave us electricity, motors, phones, TVs, cameras, planes, cars, computers, smartphones..Â
They were all Engineers with a passion for innovation just like you and me..
